LEGO Star Wars 9493: X-Wing StarfighterI got this for Christmas, my Mum had no idea what to get me this year and thought this would be a great present, the detail in this is amazing, comes with 4 figures and the wings even deploy into Attack formation. Took me about 2 hours to build over Christmas day and Boxing day. Sadly you cant display it with it wings in the x position. But i went and found my old lego while i was at my Mums for Christmas from when i was a kid and constructed 2 tall pillars so it could be displayed like this. Well worth a purchase if you can find it at a good price. It proudly sits on my display shelf, I think i've got the Lego bug back again after many years.. I've just bought the Tie Fighter from this very website.

A very merry Christmas for my 6year old. Still falls apart when the dog crashes into it but Lego are really trying hard and I noticed that all the newer ranges hold together much more firmly than the older designs. Clean looking (unlike on the film ;) ) good scale. Nice that the wings fan out. 4.0 out of 5 stars love it, so does my boy., 28 Dec 2012

ok, so buying this product for a 4 yr old wasnt a good idea. but then the lego was never for him anyway, it was for me. I read a couple of reviews that said the instructions were hard to follow. i beg to differ. they were spot on. very thorough and in a good step by step format. and its been years, maybe even decades since i put a lego set together so its not like i had any real experience either.its a great product, well made, well thought it and now built it is providing hours of entertainment for my little boy. although i do keep having to tell him that R2D2 should be in the back and that it should be luke skywalker flying it. and not even get me started on why hes decided that R5D8 should be stood on one of the wings !!!

Most parents of small boys will at some point have been pestered for Lego, it has been around for ever seemingly, and comes in many guises. Lego's ability to reinvent itself is what makes it so successful, the only limit is your child's imagination. The Star Wars collection is no exception, the possibilities are endless, and you'd need an income to equal the GNP of a small country to collect the full range, but there are some more affordable pieces, this X-Wing Starfighter being one of them. My son really wanted the Millenium Falcon, but the bank of mum and dad wouldn't stretch that far sadly. That for me is Lego's big drawback, for what it is, basically a collection of little plastic bits and pieces, it is extremely expensive. It is also not that well made considering the price. When you have worked out how to put the toy together, and that requires an engineering degree and the ability to read architectural drawings, it is quite difficult to actually keep it in one piece. Take this Starfighter, when assembled, it looks very impressive indeed, and my son absolutely loved it and was very excited to have received it. However, try actually playing with it, running around and 'flying' it or having aerial 'battles' with it for example, and the story changes. You don't actually have to grip it very tightly for bits to start falling off it or coming apart. Just picking it up makes me wince as I have had to reassemble it many a time having inadvertantly caused some vital part or other to drop off. This seems to be a problem with all of the Lego toys I have ever bought, they just don't fit together tightly enough to actually stay together when being played with. This is such a shame because the toys look great when they are assembled. If Lego could fix this particular drawback, they'd have got a 5 star rating, but as it is, they only get 3.LEGO Star Wars 9493: X-Wing Starfighter 5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy for 8 year old boy, 12 Oct 2012

My son saved up his pocket money for weeks to buy this spaceship with his own money, and he thinks it is worth every penny. Lego, of course, is very adaptable and there are few very specialised pieces in this set except for the figures, so the pieces can be used for any construction play.
