We've had ours eighteen months now and it's just brilliant, I think it's taught my 3 year old and 5 year old boys sooo much and it's saved my sanity on many occasions when I've needed to entertain one or other boy whilst the others swimming lesson is on, not only will they sit quietly unknowingly learning but it normally draws a crowd of other children to watch and chat to them. I was inspired to write this review as I've just accidentally bounced ours on a concrete floor and it's still working!! Amazing!

Initially I looked forward to getting this for my 3 year old daughter but now Im just so disappointed with it. Really dont waste you money on this. Games are too expensive and batteries run out daily. You dont even get a rechargeable battery in the pack or charger to play with it plugged in. Games are 15 to 20 pound each and not worth the money.

Im now going to get my daughter an Android tablet (cheaper in long run) and download apps that are only 1 dollar and far better quality than the rubbish you get with this. Literally i'm going to throw this in the bin.

My son absolutely loves this product. He loves the fact that it has a touch screen and using the stylus. Great for interaction and hand eye coordination.

Bought as a christmas present it seem ok. The screen size is adequate, and comes with 2 educational games included, 1 a free download from leapfrog website. Further games can be bought separately but are imo a bit pricey. Buy an android tablet it will be cheaper in the long run,

My only con is that the screen is of very poor resolution. I mean, what you see on the listing pictures has nothing to do with reality. The actual screen is like some first generation colour Nokia mobiles from the 90s.

Yes I do get it. It would be more expensive. However competitors have same prices with a lot better resoltuion touch screens.

I do recomend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Toy for a Boy too Young for a DS, 26 Dec 2012

We got this for my son for his birthday as he had been begging for a DS like his older brother has. We already had experience with getting a DS for his older brother when he was too young for it and didn't want to do that again, so we went the Leapster route.

Many reviewers have talked about battery life and I started out by buying 4 Tescos Extra-life rechargeable batteries plus the 2 metre long European Mains adapter (we live in Central Europe). That worked fine, though, in the end (and as a result of a five-year old's desperate need to keep moving) having 8 rechargeable batteries on rotation has worked better than the mains adapter, which is now gathering dust as an emergency back-up should it be needed.

The toy loses a star for the stupidly difficult to set up Explorer Connect systems that is badly thought out in the set-up stages and would not work at all with my old Windows XP SP3 laptop and only worked through my wife's Windows 7 computer. That was a very frustrating birthday evening and it might be wise to open the box and set the whole thing up before hand if you are planning to give this as a present.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but only for younger children, 9 Dec 2012

I bought two of these last Christmas for my then 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son. A few months later we ended up buying a second hand DS for my son as this wasn't really what he wanted and he got quite bored with the games. My daughter still likes hers especially the camera, mr pencil and pet pals. I would say if you child is under 5 then its probably worth getting and it was the durability more than anything that we were worried about with the DS. This can be dropped and survive! 5 years or above, I don't think this has enough about it and I think Leapfrog should try to design the games to better fit a younger player.
