Scalextric GT Force Set The excitement of sports car racing is captured in this fantastic set featuring a Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 GT against a Ford GT-R on a large, extended figure-of-eight track which includes a raised bridge section and two exciting crossover curves. The set also includes a lap counter and time unit which counts down the number of laps remaining in your race, from sprint challenges to endurance racing (up to a maximum 999 laps). The timer also records the fastest lap time for each lane to the nearest tenth of a second (up to 99.9 second lap time displayed). Featuring a clear LCD and sound. Have had hours of fun with this. Easy to put together, there was one piece of crash barrier missing but not a problem. Cars good, the silver one slightly faster then the blue one - luckily I had picked the silver one as mine!!! ;-)
Recommend this to kids of all ages, us big kids love it! Plan to buy more track soon.

Bought this for my wee boys Christmas and we couldn't wait to open it and get racing. Must say Scalextric have come on a bit sinse I got one for my christmas 30 years ago. The track is easy to assemble and stays together really well. The bridge supports are a welcome addition, as is the digital lap counter. My only gripe would be already a spoiler and a wing mirror have broken off one of the cars, nothing a dod of Araldite wont sort!! All in all great product, cant wait to start extending the track....if the wife lets me!!

Having bought this set as a Christmas present for my 7 year old son, it soon became clear that everyone in the house loved playing with this set not just our son! Our 4 year old daughter was even able to pick up the controller and play with no problem.

The "magnatraction" which helps the cars stick to the track really works and makes it easier for younger children to drive the cars without crashing constantly. Of course if you run the car on full throttle constantly you will crash, meaning there is at least a bit of skill involved.

The track is very easy to setup and the cars with their working headlights and tail lights look fantastic with the room lights dimmed.

The only downside to this set is that the cars are not very durable and are probably aimed at older players. After 2 days of use the smaller parts on both cars (wing mirrors, headlight covers) have broken off, which is a bit annoying. I suppose that could be expected after having a few high speed crashes into the skirting boards!

At the RRP I'd say this product is overpriced when you really consider what it is. However, if you add up the cost of two cars, lap timer/counter, controllers, transformer, track separately then the price I bought this for on Amazon is more reasonable.

Ultimately this is huge fun for all members of our family, so much so we are already looking at extra track/cars!

On opening this set on Christmas day we were disappointed to discover that the set included only one transformer. This means that only one of the two cars can be operated at a time. i.e. they cannot be raced. Since racing the cars is the whole point this seems to be a somewhat cynical omission. I would advise anyone seeking to buy such a set to check that it is complete with all necessary equipment.
I have now ordered a second transformer and must comment that compared to other such devices it seems to be very expensive.It is a shame that Hornby choose to abuse the trust of customers in this way because otherwise the set seems excellent. Set up is easy and it all seems to work well.
