Nothing can beat the performance and sheer awesome elegance of the 300kph Eurostar train as it cuts through the Kent countryside heading for the Channel Tunnel and then on from there to Paris or Brussels.The stunning Hornby train set features a Power driving unit, dummy driving unit and two passenger saloons.The models include flush glazing, detailed roof panels and simulated pantographs.The Eurostar is certainly not out of place as it powers around the large oval of track included in the set which also incorporates two sidings with the inside siding offering a place for the Eurostar to be stationed overnight. the item arrived on time for Xmas but then, after spending quite a lot to understand how to build the rail track (not great instruction's book), the train did not move.. My son was very disappointed as he was waiting for that for so long :-( However, amazon customer service team was fantastic and very helpful. I did not need to pay anything for sending back the item as amazon provided the service for free, and I had my money back very soon! That is why I trust amazon and I often by from it. It is a very reliable and honest company!

This product was very nicely priced didn't know if it was DCC ready but enquiry confirmed it was, already upgraded it with decoder and it runs like a dream, excellent buy and product.

A very good train set by Hornby. Before I bought this, I read quite a few reviews of both this an other Hornby train sets before purchasing this one. I decided to pay the bit extra as this comes with both TrakPack A and TrakPack B which give the Oval + a small and large Sidings.
Yes I spent a few hours carefully putting the track together on the Trakmat (I removed the creases 1st!) and made up the Oval and tested the train before adding the two TrakPacks one at a time testing the train after adding each one.
The train is a very good copy of the real one which I saw close up a few years ago at Leeds Railway station.
I think that this Train Set would be a bit expensive just to let little ones play with it on their own, but under supervision I would say that they should be able to have hours of fun. - (Explain to them how it works and let them use the controller).
Yes it does fly off the track on corners when the power is turned full, but then so would the real one !
Hornby do make extra TrakPacks to add to and you can put extra trains on the same track, but can't join them to the Eurostar as the Eurostar has its own coupling system which is different from most of the other trains.
In all a very good train set.

Few people new to Hornby, I would very much reccommend this set.

Firstly, unlike a lot of sets, this set includes track packs A and B in the set, so you will have the basic oval, plus two sidings. So there is a lot of track in this set compared to the majority of Hornby's other sets.

The train and carriages are good quality too. You get two carriages and a power and dummy driving car (compared to the single carriage the Blue Rapier set contains, for example) and they are of a good quality, with plastic windows and interior detail (as opposed to the Blue Rapier's painted on windows)

The train runs well and smooth as well, and being Hornby, should last for many years

In conclusion, if you are a fan of electric trains rather than steam locomotives, I would very much reccommend this set

Our grand children, who are 30 months old, have enjoyed the toy under supervision and like it very much. Our next purchase would be to add the additional parts to the set.

I've wanted one of these since I was 7, now, another seven years on and I've finally got one!!! This train is fantastic, and even better, I'm out of that childhood phase when, if you have an electric train set, you just put it at top speed and fling it off the track at the corners. Hopefully I wont break this one, and will start to collect very soon, especially when I become 16 and get a job. Great for beginners, great for experienced, and if you are a speedy kind of person, then you'll want to have a big space with ALOT of track to get this up to top speed!!!

This toy should be for collectors not a children's toy. If you put the train on full speed it just easliy comes off the rails; it is also too big to run, you need a massive track to run it. I don't think it is worth the money - out of five I would give the toy 3 1/2.
