Work on the Lego Duplo Stone Quarry 5653 is never dull! It can be very hard work on the Duplo Stone Quarry but Legoville needs the stones that are collected here. Use the big front loader to break and pick up 'stone' Duplo blocks, transporting them to wherever they need to go. The cement mixer is necessary whenever any heavy duty contruction is required and the quarry is no exception. When blocks need moving prior to loading and transport, the large crane features an easy-to-use grab claw allowing you to pick up Duplo blocks. The Quarry includes 3 worker minifigures to drive the front loader, run the cement mixer and control the crane. The Stone Quarry comes with 48 pieces which includes a quarry crane, a front end loader, a cement mixer, 3 workmen minifigures and a selection of Duplo bricks for you to build with. The front loader measures 15cm long and 12cm high, the cement mixer stands at 10cm high and 10cm in length while the crane is appromixmately 30cm in height! In general we have been happy with the opportunities for creative play that this Duplo set provided for our grandson. However, central to the activity is the crane and it is this aspect which is less than satisfactory.Two parts have to click together to make the base of the crane connect to the first section of the crane jib, and it is this connection which keeps falling apart when in use, and we suspect it is only going to get looser in time. A 3-year-old with good manual dexterity found it difficult to manipulate the crane without the jib falling off, with a high level of consequent frustration.
Its a shame that this flaw spoils what is otherwise a well made and creative toy.

My son (aged 2.5) picked this out on a visit to a toy shop and so we bought it for him for Christmas, and it's been a fantastic choice.It's the first Duplo set we have purchased and I've been delighted with all the different options for play that it provides. So many of the parts are interchangeable, for example the red tip up skip can be swapped with the cement mixer part to make a tip up truck and the claw arm can take the place of the big scoop on the other vehicle. The digger has a bonnet that opens so that you can fix the engine (space for one brick inside). The set is designed so that the claw picks up a brick, which can be dropped into the red tip up skip, which in turn sends the brick down the shoot and into the cement mixer.. brilliant.
My son loves driving the vehicles around and operating the long armed claw (as well as sitting the workmen - there are 3 - down for a coffee break on the steps and then picking them up with the long arm claw...)
Previous reviewers are correct in their observations that it is tricky to build, but I can do it pretty quickly now when he wants to play with it, and he'll learn to do it as he gets older too. It is also quite wobbly, but neither of these things would prevent my from buying it. It's one of our top Christmas buys. As a family - we are delighted with it.

I would like to add that having had this set 10 months now, we have become a little frustrated with the crane part of the set, which comes apart very quickly if not handled 'just right'. We still love the set, but the crane arm coming off regularly does get annoying...

My 4yr old son loves diggers and building, so this Lego Duplo Stone Quarry set ticks all the right boxes for him. The lego as always is great quality and with lots of spare bricks from other sets helps to fire my sons imagination. Amazon delivered exactly as they promised.
