Overall, this is a very good set, but I do have a couple of niggles with it, straight out of the box.The engine and rolling stock exude a certain amount of class, which is exactly what I'd expect from a Hornby product. However, when coupling it all together, for some reason the coach with the pantograph kept derailing on one of the corners, and I couldn't work out why. Maybe the couplers need to be 'bedded' in a little... When I swapped the coaches around so that the pantograph coach wasn't directly behind the powered engine, it fared considerably better. Overall, the set does seem to be quite delicate.
Also, the points and siding supplied are of the wrong radius, and need to be replaced with larger radius items - any attempt to drive the train into the siding will result in a derailment, regardless of the speed at which it's going.
Those two points stop me from giving it a 5 star rating, but I can see it giving my lad hours and hours of joy, so I'm happy too...
As far as Amazon supplying the set, I did order with plenty of time to make it for next day express delivery. Sadly, they didn't despatch on time, but thankfully I managed to persuade the courier to deliver to an alternative address at the weekend.

Like most shoppers on the internet we all know what we are looking for and don't always need to review the products we purchase. We are looking for a great price and retailer that will give great customer care, I have brought many items from Amazon and on occasion from preferred merchant via Amazon and I can honestly say that all my purchase's have been excellent giving both great price and delivery. I bought this set for my 7 year old son, having bought him his first Hornby train set last year. It looks good, but the engine and carriages are about 3 times the size of the other train set, and I don't see any advantage in making them so big. They are far too large and heavy for the track, and de-rail very easily. Also, the coupling mechanism is completely different to our other Hornby train set, and uncoupling is it is a matter of trial and error, as the instructions that come with the train set give standard instructions for uncoupling other Hornby train sets, but no instructions for uncoupling this particular model. Overall, a nice looking but totally impractical set. Unsuitable for children. My son lost all interest in it within a week of Christmas because it's so fiddly and delicate. Waste of money.
